Acupuncture

Dr. Firshein is a licensed and certified medical acupuncturist. At the Firshein Center, he utilizes acupuncture treatment for a variety of conditions including pain management, asthma and allergies, fatigue and symptoms of menopause.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a centuries old healing therapy that has been practiced continuously throughout Asia for thousands of years. It works to restore and maintain health through the stimulation of specific energy points on the body. These points are located along the body’s meridian lines, which carry energy and blood flow. To stimulate these points, a thin, sterile needle is inserted into the surface of the skin. This is thought to move the body’s Qi (vital energy) creating balance and a sense of well being.

What should I expect?

Prior to your session, Dr. Firshein will meet with you to determine your course of treatment and the conditions that can to be addressed through acupuncture. Depending on where the focus of your treatment will be, you will be either sitting up or lying down for the session. Dr. Firshein will use pre-sterilized disposable needles that are extremely thin and that will be inserted gently into different points along your body. While each person experiences acupuncture differently, most people feel only a minimal amount of sensation or discomfort as the needles are inserted, such as tingling, warmth, or heaviness.

Once all the needles are in place, Dr. Firshein will dim the lights and let you quietly relax for the rest of your session, checking on you periodically to make any adjustments.

After an acupuncture session, most patients feel relaxed and refreshed.
